Gingerbread NI has always sought to speak up for lone parents to ensure one-parent families are heard by policy makers and treated fairly in changes that will affect them.
For example, the ongoing Welfare Reform Programme has presented difficulties for many lone parents as problems mounted in the Tax Credits system and Child Support system. Gingerbread NI has challenged aspects of these changes, which we felt were detrimental to lone parents, and have reported on difficulties and problems experienced by individual lone parents. Our concerns and those of lone parents have been taken to the relevant agencies, departments and government ministers responsible and have worked with other agencies to try to ensure lone parents get and equal chance.
